in my life

Ok, so, right, best party ever. Here's the deal: at Miss Shirley's Twelfth Night party in January, we were sitting around singing, because, like, we're huge nerds. And somehow we got onto songs from Les Misérables. About half of us were singing along and thoroughly enjoying ourselves, and the rest were like, huh? So Miss S and I were like, hey, we should have a Les Miz sing-along party! Well, one thing led to another, and it actually *happened* tonight.

And it was so great! Someone would sing a solo, and I'd think, wow, that was beautiful. And then someone else would sing one and I'd think, wow, *that* was beautiful. And it went on and on. T.Hand started us off right, bringing her beautiful musical theater awesomeness to Fantine. Miss S sang Eponine much, much more nicely than the woman on the Broadway cast recording. Mr K totally pulled off Valjean's high notes - without sounding like Sean Connery (again, Broadway recording) - and Tall L brought her lovely alto tone to Enjolras. S.Haus took one for the team and sang tenor, and very nicely. Oh, and how could I forgot Z.Dog and MaMale's spirited Thenardier couple! And G-Dog's not-quite-so-cockney Gavroche, and of course the fabulous piano work of M1, despite his never having heard the show before we gave him the music. (M2 turned pages. At least, I assume that's what was going on in there. The piano was in a different room.) Everyone else sang chorus and took on random little solos as necessary.

Next up: Guys & Dolls. Guys & Dolls has several advantages over Les Miz. It's way easier to sing. You can actually buy the score, rather than having to cobble something together from the vocal selections book and various recordings. And a lot of us have already been it - including S. Haus, who sang Sky Masterson at Our Alma Mater. (I was a Hot Box Doll, but I'm promoting myself to Sergeant Sarah.)

There are well-heeled shooters everywhere, everywhere, there are well-heeled shooters everywheeeeere - and an awful lot of lettuce for the fellow who can get us there (if we only had a lousy little grand, we could be a millionaire!)

Quick, someone stop me before I sing the whole thing!
