
The day after I got there, we drove to the beach. First picture: Brasileiro buys bananas at the side of the highway. They were little bananas, very cute. The bananas grow just a bit farther off the road.

Second picture: Their car - which is American - can run on ethanol or regular gas.
(A popular option in Brazil.) This is a gas pump at some random Exxon station way out in the country. On the way to the beach we drove through an area with a bunch of refineries. Brasileiro said just that week Brazil had reached the level of production where they don't have to import any foreign oil.
