yarn porn

This knitting world, it's crazy. The other day I went to the fabric store to pick up a bunch of pink yarns (so I could make this hat for myself) and the check-out lady was all excited about how I got needles and a bunch of yarn for under $10. There was a sale, woo, and they also carry Lion Brand yarn, which isn't very expensive. And the checkout lady said, ooh, have you signed up for the Lion Brand mailing list? And I said, no. And she told me all about how they have a ton of free patterns and got the catalog out of her purse to show me. She may have used the phrase "yarn porn." Multiple times.

Yes, of *course* I went home and signed up. Lookie, there's even a Lion Brand blog. I'm excited about posts like this one - she tells you basically how to make a hat, so you can mess with the pattern and make it up as you go along.

I like this part of the instructions - "If you can’t measure their head–it’s for a gift–estimate based on your own head size."

"Well, I got a big head and most people I see on the street, they got littler heads than me, so..."

The rest of the instructions are gibberish though. K1 p1 to create a rib? Knit a gauge swatch in stockinette? The sky’s the limit when it comes to your creativity?

yarn porn, indeed. i know nothing about knitting, yet i clicked on all your links. if didn't have curly hair, i'd want to wear hats all the time. but that leads to bad hair days, and wearing hats in the office is not really cool.

Heh. It's truth of how quickly I've gotten obsessed that I didn't even notice the incomprehensible bits of that blog post. The first thing means knit one, purl one, and it'll come out looking ribbed; the second thing means to knit a little square to see how many stitches you're getting per inch; and you'll have to ask M.Bro about the third thing.

Hats are fun, EC! You know you want to learn!

I said "truth" when I meant "proof." I think it's past my bedtime.

I have been getting the Lion Brand newsletter for the last year, and I never knit. I just love the newsletter. They have a podcast too. :)
