free rice
Want something fun to do on the internet? How bout a vocab quiz? It's called "Free Rice" and it's one of those things where, if you click on something, someone donates something. But this one gives you a word to define and, depending how you answer, gives you progressively harder or easier words. And you just keep clicking...and clicking...and clicking.... So far, I top out at level 47. You? (My advantage: they think medical words are difficult.)

I think your success is in no small part due to your knowledge of many languages and word roots.

how do you KNOW these words?? "Leman" indeed. So after trying a few more minutes I got to 43.
Then I cheated and used a dictionary to get to level 48 just to see what kinds of words would be used. At that point I was looking up 9/10 words. How do you know all these words - is it from reading? or writing?
"Leman" is in a song we're singing in Christmas this year. It means "sweetheart." I know these words from reading, mostly, and guessing and vague associations. I didn't think I was that unusual!
Wow, I can make it to 43 but that's it. This explains your skill at scrabulous, too. :)
Couldn't get past 50 today...
Interestingly, when I wasn't sure of a word's meaning, I found that the correct answer was the one I lighted on first, before thinking about it. Trust your gut or trust your head?
Yes, Racine, the same is true for me! Should've known you'd get to 50, you with your ancient languages.
FIFTY??? Well there's a good reason you couldn't get past fifty - if you look at the FAQ, 50 is the highest level. :-)
HT and I got to 48 today with our combined vocabularies. That means that each of us alone would have scored 24.
I can't get higher than 43 either, but I'm claiming it's because there's a bias - there's almost no terms from industrial metalworking in here...
