this is a college reference

Dudes. Guess whose talk I went to today. Ok, don't guess, because I'm going to tell you. It was the president of Botswana. Leave a comment if you've heard a president of Botswana speak before. (A different one - this guy started his 10-year term in 1998.)

Why on Earth did you go to his talk? Wasn't once enough? (was for me...)

I'll let you in on a little secret: I pretty much slept through the whole talk yesterday. But the Q&A after the talk was really interesting.

wait, you've seen a president of Botswana speak . . . twice?!

Of course I was at "The President of Botswana Comes Alive! (1996 edition)," and if I recall correctly, it was also mind-numbingly boring. And certainly even a bigger letdown in retrospect, given who that speaker series got four years later...

Yesterday I had a close encounter with a member of the Arlington parking police. Is that special? Right. Never mind.

More dets on why the Q&A was so fascinating please.

I'm glad you enjoyed my talk. Oh wait, I mean I'm sorry you didn't enjoy my talk.

Oh my god! The President of Botswana found your blog! Just like those dancers from Finlandia!

Interesting how the president of botswana doesn't know his name...and commented one minute before J.Bro....

Maybe they know each other and were hanging out looking at various friends' blogs?

I have completely forgotten everyting the PoB said at that speech. Heck, I've pretty much forgotten most of that entire day. But I have important documents to prove I was there so it doesn't really matter in the end

Spice, it was 1997!

SarahMoffett, mostly the Q&A was better because he wasn't reading from a paper, he was relaxed and funny and stuff. But he also talked about interesting stuff, like how the whole AIDS thing is going in Botswana (pretty well) and some interesting stuff about wildlife and livestock.

Yeah, I don't remember much of that day, either...and I have no idea where the documents are.
