genius jealousy

Every year when the MacArthur fellowships are announced, I go to the list to see who I have to hate. Who do I have to hate? Anyone born after 1975. Fortunately, there aren't any this year, and there are only four who I have to resent (1970 or later).

I can't imagine what I would ever do that would make me worthy of a genius grant. I'm not sure writing mildly amusing stories about science is quite good enough.

perhaps, perhaps not. however, i'm sure that your explorations in Norwegian dance/music/culture could lend to some awesome study. or something. by looking at those birthdays, looks like you've got time to figure out something. :)

This is the first year I actually know--nay, have even communicated with--one of the geniuses. (Geniui?) I feel so special. Next year I hope to win one thanks to my contribution to humanity (i.e., my blog).

Nice! One year I interviewed one of them the day before the fellowships were announced. (He already knew about it.)

I've never heard of any of these people, but I don't need a million dollars from some organization to know *I'm* a genius. That's what my ego is for. Woo

Grrrbear, I hereby bestow upon you the first ever Towwas Genius Grant. I know you're surprised - the selection process is secret. Nominees don't even know they're being considered. And in your case, if the nominee doesn't check this comment thread again, he may never even know he's won. This is in recognition of your achievements in Chicago pizza evangelism, Eurotrash glasses-wearing, and generally being a good guy. I'll give you a dollar the next time I see you, ok?
