three of these things are not like the other

Next month, this singer I like (Rachael Yamagata) is performing locally, and that's cool. But here's the thing: the show is Mandy Moore, with Rachael Yamagata, at the Birchmere. As J.Chu said, these are three things that do not go together. Rachael Yamagata is kind of a hipster-piano-songwriter girl. The Birchmere is a folk club where you sit down and order food. And Mandy Moore is Mandy Moore. Loved her in Saved!, not quite sure I'm prepared to see her in concert. So, I want to go, but...I'm confused. Someone, please explain.

i can't offer any explanation for it . . . especially at the birchmere . . . but if you're looking for others who would love to experience the uncertainty first hand, count me in. i happen to enjoy rachael yamagata's music.

btw, my verification word is "supnk". i'm no punk, i swear.

According to something I recently read in Paste Magazine, Mandy Moore's trying for a career reinvention - at least on the music side. She's going for an alt-folky, Patty Griffin thing now. I haven't heard any of her new stuff, though, so I can't vouch for whether or not she's been successful in making the leap! If her recent acting choices (Saved!, Entourage) are any indication, it could actually be kind of cool to see her in concert nowadays...

I saw a review for the new album in the Post Express a week or two back, and the general consensus is that, surprisingly, it's Not Godawful.

Let me see... Ah. Here's another review:

It even explains the Yamagata connection.

Yeah, I went and listened to one of the songs on her website and liked it...so I'm totally going to the concert. Tickets go on sale today at noon! J.Chu and I have decided we're going for a pop star trifecta - we saw Justin Timberlake last year and he rocked, and now we're seeing Mandy Moore, and we can only hope we get picked in the ticket lottery to see the Spice Girls in December.

Great "new" music leads for me - I heard something good about Mandy's music (not on NPR, I looked again) but someplace. Anyway, I'll also try Minnie Driver and Tegan and Sara since my search came up with them too.

i agree - i like what i hear on the website. quite an improvement from "candy" or whatever other songs she had way back when. thank goodness she got out of the post-britney crowd.

think it'll sell out fast? i haven't done tickets yet.

I doubt it will sell out fast. With the Ticketevil fees, it comes to $40 a ticket - I bet you could save about $8 of that at the Birchmere box office.

I also read Mandy Moore wasn't half bad. I was surprised but glad for her because we are very close.

Mandy Moore was all sorts of awesome on Entourage.

Came across your blog while looking for other's thoughts on Tuesday night's performance at the Birchmere. Bless you for stating the obvious. How in the world did Yamagata and Moore end up touring together? After Tuesday's performance, I'm even more baffled. Yamagata was amazing. I left after three of Moore's songs. She was killing my buzz from the opening performance.

Apparently they're big buddies now - they wrote a song together on Mandy Moore's new album. (Which is not so bad.)
