Hey - remember how last year, these two movies came out and they were both about magic tricks? And one was The Prestige? What was the other one, and of the two, which should I put in my Netflix queue?
The Illusionist had Edward Norton in it. It's Ed Norton vs. Christian Bale for who you like better. They're virtually identical films, really. Good surprise endings, good supporting actors, good stories. Neither of them are amazing, zomgmustseeordie...but they're both good.
You should probably see them both for maximum compare and contrast. I will say, however, that as much as I love Ed Norton (and it's a love so deep it's nearly inappropriate), his accent in this film bothered me to no end.
If you hurry, you can probably see them both on-demand at my house for free. :D Busy next weekend?
Interesting that J.Vo had a different opinion about the Illusionist vs. Prestige. Maybe it relates to which one a person sees first? I saw the Illusionist first, and then felt like I was watching the same movie when we got the Prestige vis N'flix. Also, I really like Edward Norton.
oh yeah, I saw "The Illusionist," but not "The Prestige," and I was also floored that two movies came out about magicians in such a short period of time. Ed Norton = slick. Jessica Biel looks good in the one with Ed norton too. And I always love Rupert whatever his name is, the dude with the lazy eye.
To add to the reviewfest, I liked The Illusionist a lot better - mainly because the payoff at the end of The Prestige was so lame. Afterwards, H.Go, M.Wil and I were all like "Huh? That was it?!?!"
Norton and Bale are both very worthy of any sort of screentime, although Bale edges out Norton for hotness (see: Batman Begins).

The other one was much much (much)better. I think it's called The Illusionist.
It is the Illusionist, but I actually liked the other one better.
I saw the Prestige with the GF. We both liked it, but I think she was probably influenced by the Christian Bale factor...at least in part.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, because I'm practically a twin of Christian Bale.

I liked the Illusionist better b/c I figured out the ending of the Prestige well before the end.
