nerdtastic crafts

I know it's not exactly scarf season anymore - or shouldn't be, we'll disregard the fact that it's been in the 40s a few recent mornings - but last night I finished a new masterpiece. It was made from N.Lu's favorite sweater, and here she is modeling the scarf at happy hour tonight:

Ok, I'll give you a giant hint to the nerdiness of this scarf and tell you that the last time I had lunch with her, we talked a bit about atmospheric chemistry. So. What are those dots?

oxygen and carbon dioxide molecules?

i love being able to access my previous life as a scientist for these visual scarf quizzes.

You got one right, and a rudimentary knowledge of chemistry will tell you which one. :)

Ummm...nitrogen dioxide??? The angle on the balls to the right make me think NO2. I would have said water, but the correct answer above made me think that red=oxygen.

NICE CRAFTING!!!

Ding ding ding! J.Po wins. That's CO2 on the left (arranged in a line because it's all double bonds) and NO2 on the right (right again, about the angle). Po wins...actually, a scarf, probably. Po, you want a scarf? Got any old wool sweaters for me? I wonder if I could make a public health-themed scarf....

I totally want a scarf....maybe one with pics of STDs or something. The clap, syphilis, HIV, etc, etc.

It would have been impossible for me to succeed in your game without the help of erin*carly, whoever she is.

Oh man - I want a scarf based on my dissertation!! How do you visually represent the domestic components of resolve and their observance though information-aggregators like financial markets?

Ooooh, CO2 and water or NO2, VERY NICE CRAFTING INDEED.

Po, you could totally embroider the crystal structure of the HIV capsid. Would take 3 years, but you could do it. Angstrom resolution, baby.

OMG, J. Po, you should do that!

J. Bro, I have no idea. But I'd be willing to give it a shot, if you sent me some old wool sweaters. :) Like, now - I'm selling at a craft fair at the end of June and could use some more raw materials. Actually, for you, I'd want to make a scarf that somehow represented high-end denim, and I'm just not sure my skills are up to that.

woo, one is better than none! and it's totally the one on the left, but i totally forgot the "why" until i read the comment below.

j.po, i'm a reveler. that should say enough. :)

in reality, i went to college for biology, and subsequently studied writing, graphic design, and photography. my degrees (2!) are in the final two, but i love accessing old knowledge. makes me feel less . . . old. not sure how that works. i didn't do so well in "logic."
