Today at work I was surfing the blogs and discovered that Helen the Amusing Harpist had gone on a blogging spree. She's recently moved to Munich, which apparently inspires people to write more. Anyway, in England they call chickadees and related birds "tits." (Leads to all kinds of amusing bird names, like "great tit" and "blue tit.") So, she was blogging about birds and she mentioned that Germans call them something else.
I am constantly amazed by my brain. When I read that the Germans call chickadees "Meisen," I was like, oh, yeah, I knew that.
I mean, cmon now. Why do I know that? Usually I take after my dad, who has no memory of Spice and the Po visiting us in Japan. (My mom and I offered many details, but no luck.) And yet the German word for chickadee? Oh, totally. That's back there in the memory banks.
Cute bird pictures: Great tit; Blue tit. Also, I highly recommend googling "great tit" for a major-league mismatch between the search results and the sponsored links.

The same thing happens to me but it usually involves obscure pop culture minutiae. Like who replaced Julie the Cruise Director on "Love Boat" when Lauren Tewes got kicked off for being a drug addict*.
* Her sister "Judy McCoy" played by a different actress who's name escapes me at the moment...
Oh. My. Gosh.
I went to IMDB to look up who it was that played Judy McCoy and the "credited cast" list for Love Boat reads like a who's who of my childhood. Suddenly, I remember sitting there every week wondering which star was going to come walking down that plank to surprise me...
Oh! Look! It's Charo!!
