science

A few weekends ago, S.Vix and I went on an expedition with the local science writers' group to the far western bit of Maryland, where there are hills (you may know them as "the Appalachians") and nature and stuff. Anyway, here, look at some pictures:

A carnivorous plant in a greenhouse at a local university. Carnivorous plant. Rawr. Someone asked if you have to feed them, but our guide said you can give them special fertilizer instead, which is totally lame. I was pleased to see that the plants had some little dead gnats floating inside.

This setup is leftover from the exam in a summer course - I think they had to identify the organisms in the jars. I'm going with Animalia, Arthropoda, Crustacea, er...mole crab.

The hotel we stayed at was right on main street, in a big old building, and it was kitsch central. I would highly recommend it to anyone. This is on the landing between the second and third floors.

And this was in the taxidermy display case in the basement.
