maps

Hawaii: it's pretty and all, but they are not so into the road signage. It seriously took this many maps whenever we had to drive anywhere. And sometimes we had to whip out a printout of an e-mail from a U2-fan/travel-agent who sent out helpful hints for getting around Honolulu.

Our first adventure with the dreaded H1 was our first morning there, when Kay Ray and I headed to Hanauma Bay for some snorkeling. Despite the fact that the H1 is a major freeway and about one mile from our hotel, it took us a good half hour or more to find an on-ramp.

Hanauma Bay is beeeyoootiful (see above), but I wasn't all that blown away by the snorkeling. We saw a lot more kinds of fish a few days later at Turtle Bay on the north shore. And we didn't see any turtles anywhere. (Sad.)

By the time we left, Missy and I were Hawaii "interstate" experts - we were all "Maybe we should take the Pali to H3 instead of the Likelike" and stuff. Her brother lives in somethinghawaiian Bay on the north-east shore, so we had to go across the mountains many, many times.
