ride safety or lack thereof

This article in today's Post, which points out the near-total lack of regulation of amusement park rides, makes me feel good about hating them. I've always felt kind of wimpy about it. I even went on a big ol wooden roller coaster a few years ago just to prove that I could. I screamed the whole time, not in the "I'm having fun!" way, and I was still shaky a couple of hours later.

Hey--I remember that! Then we ate Afghani food, right? High adventure, indeed.

I'm with you TOWWAS - never liked them. I remember going to Palisades Park as a teen -- my first real amusement park -- and I watched as kids got off the Mighty Mouse (or something like that) and, well, puked! I never could enjoy them, although I have ridden out of chiding (in my younger years) and duty (as a parental unit).... Still, not my favorite thing to do. I can now watch - no chiding, nor duty will convince me otherwise.

Yep, S.Vix - you were there on that fateful occasion! Basso, glad to hear it. WoR, you didn't *seem* insane when I met you....

I love them too! Although the first one I rode didn't actually have any seat belts or other restraints - so in retrospect I probably should have been flung out to my death that afternoon. Mercifully, adrenalin gives even a 12 year old an iron grip on the handrail...

yikes, I always wondered how they regulated safety in amusement park rides. what a nightmare. I'm also glad I don't like those rides and do not feel compelled to ride them any more. Merry-Go-Round is plenty exciting.

Frankly, I can't believe I lived through many years of rural Nebraskan county fairs.
