le superstar

Jesus Christ Superstar is one of my favorite shows, and pretty much my major source of knowledge on the Gospels. So I finally got around to renting it from Netflix, and let me tell you: it is the awesome. The 70's costumes. The dance routine Herod does when he taunts Jesus. The outSTANDing disco number - tight white costumes, gyrating backup dancers, and all - that Judas sings to Jesus at the end. (Tell me what you think about your friends at the top/ Who do you think besides yourself's the pick of the crop/ Buddha was he where it's at, is he where you are/ Could Mohammed move a mountain or was that just PR?)

But I just discovered the absolute best thing about the DVD, better even than the hats worn by the bad guys: the French soundtrack. The French voices are way cooler than the American voices. Particularly the woman who sings Mary Magdalene - she sounds like a French cabaret singer. (Moi, je sais que toute va bien, oui, toute va tres bien, oui....) I have to watch the whole thing again now.

Next, you should get Godspell from Netflix. 70's OVERLOAD! (Not the same as Cute Overload.)
