When I was having dinner with Molly B in Brooklyn last weekend, we got into this discussion about starches. I was picking my meal by side dishes and ended up with...ok, I don't remember, but it came with green beans and potatoes au gratin, and went well with martinis. Oh right! skirt steak. Anyway, I said that I didn't really care what I ate, as long as it came with potatoes, because I love potatoes. They bring me fat and salt, and I love them. And Molly B said she has that kind of love for rice. She spent many of her formative dietary years in West Africa, where they're all about rice.
I was shocked. Who loves rice? Rice is boring! My list of starches, in order of love: potatoes; bread; rice. Hers: rice; bread; potatoes. Crazy. What is yours? Feel free to include other starches I haven't thought of.

Bread, rice, pasta, and only then potatoes.
All of which are the enemy of most of my patients, but still, so very, very good...
Ha! I didn't even think of pasta. Ok, Pasta comes in after bread but before rice. So: Potatoes, bread, pasta, rice.
Bread, bread, bread, rice, potatoes, pasta.
bread. pasta. rice. potatoes.
if i could make these words appear in size order, bread would be about 5 times as large as the rest. and potatoes would be small.
i've been known to have days that look like this: bagel for breakfast, sandwich [of course on amazing bread] for lunch, and pasta for dinner. you'd think i was a marathon runner.
potatoes (made into spicy waffle fries), bread, pasta, rice, , , , , potatoes (that aren't spicy waffle fries)
Bread (really good bread), rice, potatoes, bread (standard issue), pasta. Potatoes would be higher, but I like them more occasionally than the others (i.e. I don't want to eat them as much, but when I do, I often enjoy them more than rice).
They are all equally amazing. Bread is so good, Rice is so good, Potatoes are so good, Pasta is so good, how could one possibly choose???? Not to mention Oatmeal, cereal.... Wow, I'm happy just even thinking about this. and then PASTRIES!!!!!!!!! PASTRIES!!!!!!!!!
I should say, that as an Asian, I definitely pick rice. Rice is just so freaking awesome. But then yesterday I ate dinner at a conference and the bread was really good and I ended up having five humongous slices with dinner, and was sooooo happy....
Carbohydrates give the greatest natural high in the world.
I LOVE rice as long as it has sushi rolled around it.
Pasta, bread, potatoes, rice -KateK
I am amazed by all this pasta love. Pasta is something that goes under sauce (sauce that is, subsequently, mopped up with bread). Kind of like how rice is something that goes under Indian food.
Bread - I'm now hungry for bread; Wegman's bread - any kind will do; brochen are really my favorite, but it's hard to find real brochen outside of Germany/Austria - then spelt I think (I know it's not really the same as the other things, but I like to say "spelt")
