the unsinkable molly B

Monday morning Dr. Roo and I went to Molly B's studio in Queens to look at her art. A few years ago when I was in New York, I went to see a show of hers at a little gallery in Brooklyn. I was a little worried, because you never know if you're going to have to make up nice things to say about a friend's creative effort. But I totally loved Molly B's work, so I knew I could be polite at her studio. She showed us a ton of stuff, and the canvas I really wanted was enormous and also cost about $1500, so, not so much, but I did bring home three smaller works. Yay. Art.

I really enjoy your blog. Not that this should matter. It is really a FYI type of comment.

Yay art! I bought another painting at the silent auction for my theater company which now puts me at almost a 50/50 split between actual art and framed posters I've had since college. I view this as a major accomplishment and life milestone.

You'll have to come out to Chicago this fall for the Bucktown Arts Fest or Around the Coyote festivals. There's tons of good are that is significantly less expensive than $1500. Of course, there's tons that's more than that too, but at least there's flexibility.

Heh. Actually, I'd love to come out there again - I had a great time last time, despite the whole sick thing. But for now, I'm going to stick to buying art from my friends who are artists. Since I only have two, and I don't have the phone number for one of them, this means saving a lot of cash.

I had the same pleased reaction when I saw a webcomic drawn by a friend I know from high school. Yay for artist friends!
