linie

Another alcohol picture from the week in the mountains:

Linie Aquavit is called that because it crosses the line - before they bottle it, they age it by sticking it in barrels and packing it up in ships that cross the equator. The name of the ship and the dates of the voyage are printed on the back of the label - you can read it through the booze. In this picture, we're sitting around a table in candlelight late at night drinking duty-free aquavit, which is about the most Norwegian thing you can do. (Ok, some people were drinking duty-free whiskey, but that's plenty Norwegian, too.)

Do Norwegians think the equator is really cool and exciting? Moreso than the north pole? I'd imagine so because the pole is so close and all. It'd sort of be how at OAM people from the south talked about Canada like it was an exotic foreign land, when to Minnesotans like me it was just "that place up to the north where you can drink at 18".

One time, during my wild college days, I drank liquor that hadn't crossed the equator by ship. It's a mistake I won't be making again.

Yeah, I think if you're in Norway, the arctic is pretty much, like, whatever. Whereas the equator is a fascinating and exotic place where you can work on your tan even in the middle of winter.

J.Bro, that's shameful.
