I took a bus from Stavanger to Bergen and - I find this endlessly fascinating - the bus took a ferry. 'Cause that's just the way the highway goes between these two major cities. All the cars...have to get on a BOAT. Crazy. So we were right there with the trucks carrying groceries and everything. (That's my bus in the middle lane.)
This is a very civilized way to travel by bus, because you can get off the bus for a while, get something to eat, buy a paper, watch the fjords go by - good stuff. It also helped that the bus was less than half full. This makes a decided contrast to another bus ride I took a few days later.

Reflecting our Norwegian heritage, there's a ferry across the Wisconsin River for those drivers that simply can't be bothered to go all the way to Sauk City to cross at a normal bridge. It's also for those of us who enjoy the idea on its face of a highway being a ferry. There's a great little ice cream shop to enjoy while waiting your turn for the big boat.
