ice storm

So, 'bout that ice storm we had this week. See how the cute widdle birdies hop around on top of the snow at the bottom of the birdfeeder, and they're so teensy and dainty, they don't leave any marks?

Right. Except the same thing happens if I clomp around in my big ole hiking boots. It's not so much snow as it is a sheet of ice. A three-inch-thick piece of ice. Not even, like, an icy crust on top of some snow. Nope - just ice. (The footsteps in the picture are from yesterday, when it was a bit slushier.)

i went with my coworker and her daughter to check out the new house they'll be moving into in march (and to sign the lease, yay!), and we went ice skating in the front yard. and down the steps. and across the street . . . always interesting when the seven year old is slipping and sliding and giggling, and you're holding onto the railing for dear life.

just realized that it's friday. which means tomorrow is saturday! have a FANTASTIC time on your trip, and don't forget to post pictures when you can! see you when you get back . . . can't wait to hear all about it. :)
