eric whitacre

Two of my many choirs are singing music - actually, the same piece - by this awesome contemporary composer dude, Eric Whitacre. He writes beautiful, beautiful music, which he helpfully posts on his myspace page, so I think you should go listen to it.

Here's his page. The one we're doing is Sleep; if you can't make it to any of my concerts to hear me, this page gives you the clearly inferior alternative of listening to professionals who actually know how to sing. Although we do a pretty good job - the music isn't as difficult as you'd think. Another beautiful one on that page is Lux Aurumque, which my church choir did for one of the Christmas Eve services. Listen for my one-syllable solo at 0:26. No, that is not me singing, but I did sing that high A flat in church. I am soprano; hear me screech.

Isn't it beautiful music? Hear way more of it at his other website, including a cool wind version of Sleep.

If a choir gives a concert, sings a song called "sleep", and everyone in the audience falls asleep - does the concert actually happen?

Yes. That would be a concert where everyone in the audience was...me. But I always wake up again!

Wow, I love it! Thanks for introducing us to his music.
