So, a month ago, I read a post on Lifehacker about National Novel Writing Month. The idea is, you know, you've always wanted to write a novel, so why not just go ahead and do it already? People have writing meet-ups and stuff, and they keep track of their progress on the NaNoWriMo website. The goal is to write 50,000 words in a month.
It sounded kind of cool, but it was two days before the beginning of November then, and my November was kind of crazy, so I thought I'd put it off until I'd had a chance to think about, oh, I don't know - a setting and some characters. Other than, say, a novel about a girl science writer who lives in the suburbs.
Then last night I was talking to J.Chu (I needed her encouragement before making a last-second bid on ebay - she's good at that) and she said she was doing it! She was writing a freaking novel! But she was only at 40,000-something, and she didn't know if she was going to finish.
Well, she sent me an e-mail half an hour ago - and she won! Ok, she didn't actually finish the novel, but she wrote 50,000 words. Finished more than an hour before midnight. And I call that pretty darn impressive.
Everybody, tell J.Chu she's the bomb!

I read about that early in November, too--pretty amazing. It was tough for me to crank out six blog posts in November.
And why not a science writer who lives in the suburbs? Write what you know!
J. Chu, I don't know who you are, but apparently, you are the bomb!
Seriously, 50,000 words is mighty impressive. Are these novels available for the public to read at some point?
I thought about writing a couple chapters for Novel-writing Month and just throwing them in the middle of my dissertation.
Chapter 1: Reconceptualizing Resolve
Chapter 2: The Economic Effects of Conflict
Chapter 3: The Dragon-Slayer
Chapter 4: Into the Mouth of the Beast
