turista

The first day back in São Paulo, Brasileiro took me to tae kwon do with him. Mostly it was so I could learn to use the metro. The metro in São Paulo is great - it's so easy to get around. Brasileira was worried about me taking it by myself, but I think she thought I'd be, like, standing in stations gawking at maps and flipping through guidebooks. Put me in a subway system, and my inner commuter roars to life. One of my last days I was riding with Brasileiro and we were changing trains at one of the big stations. It was the Sunday of Carnaval, so there were a bunch of people who were Brazilians but clearly didn't normally take the metro. We got stuck behind a pack of them on the stairs. Just before I passed them on the left I thought to myself: "f***ing tourists." Yes, I immediately recognized the irony.

I do the same thing when I go to New York, which is funny because the first time I was there I tried to give my wallet to some homeless guy.

I love being in touch with my inner commuter. She is very powerful.

I also do the same thing every time I'm in NYC. I think it's only made worse by the fact that I usually end up staying at a hotel in times square if I'm not staying with friends. I love the actvity of the square, but loathe all the tourists standing between me and the subway stop.

Stupid TRL kids and their stupid "We [heart] U Ashlee!!!" posterboard signs...

But of course, I've been to new york often enough that I no longer consider myself a tourist. Rather, I think of myself as someone who lives waaaaay up on the upper west side.

Of course I can't be from the suburbs because that weould make me a B&T'er.

I found it when it was nominated for the Bloggies. The GF is a *HUGE* fan, so I'll generally have my attention called to it at least 2-3 times a week.

Besides, some of those pictures are pretty darn funny. For example: http://mfrost.typepad.com/cute_overload/2005/12/c_is_for_cookie.html
