giant bummer

So the day after the U2 concert in São Paulo, I bought my ticket to Honolulu to see them again. Yes, the concert was that good. But now this: they've postponed the last 10 dates on the tour. I thought of many things that could go wrong with this plan, but I did not think of this. So now I'm spending $600 on a plane ticket and 20 hours on planes to hang out on Oahu for three days and not see U2.

It could be argued that this little excursion was ridiculous even with the U2 concert, but it was going to be a whole adventure - flying out with J.Chu, meeting Kay Ray there, and enjoying a few days of beach and music. Sigh. Maybe they'll reschedule it soon enough that we can change our plane tickets.

UPDATE, a bit later: Air New Zealand says they're going to let people who bought non-refundable tickets to Auckland change them without fees when the new dates are announced...maybe if I'm really lucky Northwest will do the same....

You have some serious karma with U2 concerts dude...although the Brazil one totally worked out, so maybe this one will to!! :)

Much like my teensy little jury duty issue...eep!

Ha! Northwest is going through bankruptcy and is facing a pilots' strike. They're so unstable that my mom is purposefully not flying them to Florida in a few weeks (for those not in the know, this is a huge decision for someone in Minneapolis, where 95% of the flights are Northwest). So yeah, I seriously doubt they'll do something like that. But you can still enjoy Hawaii!

Eh, I think it's possible they'll be nice to us. Airlines are always bankrupt, and they're always desperate to keep their customers happy - that's why they never take away frequent flier miles in bankruptcy. Whatever. I need every teensy droplet of hope I can find right now.

Maybe they'll postphone the concert to a week earlier and you'll be on Oahu the same weekend as me!

..OK, so it's really hard to feel sorry or sad for your situation, but I do hope it all works out. So, let's see, cheap ticket to Hawaii, three days on Oahu, friends -- OK, 20 hr. flight. Northwest, refund, doing the right thing = slim to none, but i DO wish you well my friend.

Twenty hours on a plane, major jet lag, and going from the redeye straight to work on Monday...yeah. Well, hopefully they'll reschedule to a time when I can go.

Wow, a U2 fiend!!!! I have never had such devotion to a music group, but reading about you with U2, and hearing lots about Spice and J. Po with REM, I feel like I must be missing out on a key American experience. I suppose the band that I love enough to follow around would be Radiohead. (although... what do you say I follow Hesperion XXI on their next world tour?)

Hawaii will be great even without the U2, I'm sure.

Heh - I'm actually a much bigger R.E.M. fan than U2 fan, but U2 puts on better concerts.
