I just popped this movie in the DVD player (I'm having a Brazilian film festival in preparation for my trip) and apparently it's rated R for "strong bloody violence/carnage." Among other things. Umm...ok then. Carnage. That's a new one.
UPDATE, MUCH LATER: Ok, after a little Pixar therapy, I think I'm sufficiently over the IV drug use, stabbing, shooting, rivers of blood, and - oh, yes - carnage to be able to sleep. It was a good movie, if anyone's in the market for something a little disturbing.

Well, never having heard of Hector Babenco, I didn't expect anything in particular. I mean, I expected it to be totally violent because it was about a prison riot, but that was as far as I got.
