tinariwen

Yay!! I just found a CD I'd lost! I was really sad about it, too - I hadn't seen it since before I got the iPod. The iPod was a dark and barren land without my Tinariwen album.

Tinariwen, as you are most certainly aware, is "the leading Touareg desert blues band." I highly recommend the album - at least listen to the snippets on Amazon. It's totally hot.

Touareg is a real word? I assumed Volkswagen made it up -

Yep - they're nomads in the Sahara.

Oh, well, then, here's another modern African music recommendation. Oumou Sangare: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001ADAUG/sr=1-1/qid=1139064383/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-0564612-2216140?%5Fencoding=UTF8

I actually found both Tinariwen and Oumou Sangare on the listening stations at Tower.

Sweet, oh I have heard Oumou Sangare, too! On that subject, may I recommend "Tunula Eno" by Samite. A bit more American, but the guy is African by birth. I put the Tinariwaren in my Amazon cart- they will soon be inundated by orders due to your blog, TOWWAS!
