It's the moment you've all been waiting for, or at least the moment I'VE been waiting for: I just turned in my dinosaur story. So, 3,840 words is kind of like 3,000 words, right? And Feb. 9 is kind of like Jan. 31? Ok, so I actually had a legitimate extension on the deadline.
...
Sorry, just had to stop for a little victory dance. Oh my gosh am I glad that's over. Now I can go to Brazil and forget about it...until I get back and find out what kind of massive revisions they want. But that's ok! I've finished the really hard part!
(Where is this being published, you ask? A magazine you've heard of. Not my employer. E-mail me and I'll tell you when & where to look for it.)

now you will have to find new reasons to procrastinate by writing emails and blogging.
Haha. No, overachieving word-wise is generally frowned upon. I imagine what will happen is Brilliant Editor L will say, hey, that's a good start, why don't you rearrange it like X and give some more information on Y and talk to someone about Z and turn it in again. Since I know she'll probably want major changes, I wasn't too concerned about turning it in at exactly the right length.
