Today Miss Shirley was in charge of circle before the matinee. We do circle (or blob) before every rehearsal and every show. It covers the mundane stuff, like today's reminder *never* to let go of the hands of the person next to you during the Sussex Mummers Carol and information about the cast party. It's also the time when we come to the show mentally and get ready to sing to the back row of seats (where B.Nick was sitting - hey dude).
And often someone talks about why we do this. So today Miss S talked about community. After her miscarriage, people in our group shared their stories and their mothers' stories and their sisters' stories, and told her about lives going on and other children being born. She told us that's what the show is, that what we tell the audience every year at this time is what everyone told her: it's dark, and things are terrible, and the sun and moon have gone away, but you know what? They're coming back. It's going to be okay.
[In Norwegian dancer news, the tall Norwegian dancer is moving down the line. It started with his kiss for Miss S last night. He kissed the teen next to her at today's matinee, then the next teen over tonight. G-dog is the next one in that row and she is psyched for tomorrow's matinee. Which is our closing day! Sad!]
