reporting from CNN
This is a nice piece of reporting from CNN - a list of differences between what government officials were saying about the situation in New Orleans and what CNN was seeing. As someone on Romenesko pointed out, this is what you get when the media gets real, unfettered access to a nasty situation. They (we) can actually - gasp - report on what's happening.

My favorite is Brown saying that the evacuation of hospitals is going well, contrasted with Sanjay Gupta saying that this is one of the worst situations he has ever witnessed as either a doctor or a journalist.
This article was absolutely brilliant, and I am really glad that CNN is bringing the cluelessness of FEMA to the forefront. I wonder if Brown's responses are intentional/pride-driven - like the North Koreans telling everyone "THERE IS NO FAMINE!" while millions die - or delusional - or just being plain out of touch.
I think probably a combination of the two. It's been heartening watching all the reporting going on after the hurricane - maybe there's hope for American journalism.
